FLYING HIGH IN TURKEY

I'd been to Turkey several times, but this trip was different. My friends and I were going sky-high.

But first stop was Istanbul, legendary city straddling Europe and Asia with a history dating back thousands of years. Our guide Julia put it so well,' Each  new civilisation is built on the dust of the last one.' Once known as Byzantium and later Constantinople — it's been shaped by some of the greatest civilisations in history. Think Greek, Roman, Ottoman, Byzantine and now the Republic of Turkey.

And its location on the Bosphurus at the crossroads of Europe and Asia made it a prize for conquerors and a melting pot of cultures, religions, and ideas.  Today it's a city where trams hum past ancient walls, ferries cross from Europe to Asia, and history still breathes in every stone.

There are mosques everywhere

The most famous of all

The iconoc Hagia Sofia at night

Now it's off to The Grand Bazaar

A visit to the Grand Bazaar is a must

Rugs, carpets, scarves...

and Turkish Delight, of course.

We marvelled at the centuries-old Topkapi Palace

...and its intricate craftsmanship

A visit to Istanbul's oldest bathhouse Tahtakale Hamamı built in 1454 is perfect after all that sightseeing.

A wonderful way to relax

But the real reason for our trip was to visit the surreal landscapes of Cappadoccia.

HOT-AIR BALLOONING!

Getting ready

And away we go!

Literally breathtaking

Dawn in fairyland

Down to earth

Cheers!
