Kate Turkington is the author of 12 books, including the first critical study of Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart (Studies in English Literature: Things Fall Apart) (pub. Edward Arnold, London, 1977) and Certificate English (an English Language grammar for ESL students; pub Nelson, London, 1968) among other academic publications and school text books.

Her The South Wind and the Sun, a collection of African writing for secondary schools (De Jager-Haum, 1983), is still in print and widely used in South African schools and colleges. Her two mainstream books, There’s More to Life Than Surface (Penguin, 1998) and Doing it with Doris (Penguin, 2004), are part autobiographical, part travelogue, part spiritual journey.

Kate Turkington is one of South Africa’s best-known broadcasters, travellers and travel writers.

She was recently given a “Commended” award in the CNN African Journalist Awards 2008 for an article on Ethiopia published in Travel magazine, entitled “Where Time Stands Still”. Read more.
