I took my 11-year-old grandson to Disneyland Paris the week before Christmas…

The weather was great, but although it was bitterly cold, Paris put on her best face for us with bright blue skies and sunshine. Try to avoid weekends - the Brits pour over from London on Eurostar, and it seems that every French family in the world decides to join you, so the queues for the rides are lo-o-ong. Eurodisney is not as slick as its American cousins in California and Miami - rides often break down - but there is a kind of Gallic charm to it all, and the French are amazingly patient. Wait for weekdays to ride Pirates of the Caribbean (great but no Johnny Depp, alas!); Thunder Mountain; Phantom Manor, Space Mountain, Star Tours and Buzz Lightyear’s ride - the most popular rides.

Take a package tour with everything included and book well in advance

Give yourself space: If you can afford it put the kids in separate rooms

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes

Expect to exist on fast food

Get going early                           

Do all the rides you can
